To identify issues which result in major traffic congestion in and around Fort William and propose / implement solutions to these issues

All

  • Further investigation to be carried out as to whether box marking junctions may help the flow of traffic.
  • It was agreed that traffic lights were not appropriate for this particular roundabout.

Bob Mitchell (TS)

Belford Hospital pelican crossing

Timings to be looked at.

Bob Mitchell (TS)

Lochaber Leisure Centre pelican crossing

Transport Scotland advise that any changes at this crossing would have a minimal positive effect on traffic congestion

To be discussed

Nevis Bridge

Transport Scotland identify the bridge and the sharp right hand turn onto the bridge as contributing significantly to traffic congestion

To be discussed

Inverlochy traffic signals

  • Study underway reviewing design, results due by Christmas 2010.  BM committed to undertaking any recommended works within budget limitations.  Also looking to source extra funding from Congestion reduction initiative – BM progressing

Nevis River Crossing at An Aird

  • Transport Scotland to advise status and capacity of the Nevis river crossing accommodation bridge at An Aird

Manual Traffic Signalling in the event of future major traffic congestion

Northern will not recruit anybody at this time owing to an embargo caused by the financial climate. NC have just dispensed with one Traffic Warden and there is no likelihood of a replacement anytime soon.  When delays occur CI John Chisholm will ensure that officers investigate the causes but NC will not routinely deploy officers on point duty

John Chisholm (Northern Constabulary)
